Please plan to attend the 2015 Foodways Networking Event on Wednesday, May 6th, 2015.
Interact with others interested in diverse, food-related issues at an evening of lively discussion hosted by the Southern Maryland Food Council on May 6th, 2015 in St. Mary’s County. The event will consist of a networking session and a session of targeted discussions in which participants will explore ways to get involved in specific food-related issues. Come for both sessions, or just the session that interests you.
SESSION I – Open Networking (6 p.m. – 7 p.m.) Meet with others interested in issues like ag in the schools, childhood obesity and disease, environmental impacts of food systems, nutrition education, recycling, farming, natural foods/remedies and more.
SESSION II – Discussion Groups (7 p.m. – 8 p.m.) Sign up for one of these three pre-selected topics and learn more about what’s going on locally and how you can become involved.
- Feeding Hungry Kids Outside of School. Learn about existing supplemental nutrition programs for local school-aged children, and then brainstorm ways that you can fill needs these programs cannot address.
- Community Gardens. Learn about existing community gardens in the region and discover how to start one in your school, church or neighborhood.
- Southern Maryland’s Emerging Ag & Food Innovation Center. Learn about the food hub that is now being created in Southern Maryland. Contribute ideas and find how you can get involved.
